Excavating — VP Construction
Service

Excavating

Professional excavation services for site preparation, grading, land clearing, trenching, and earthwork in Schuylkill, Carbon, and Berks County, PA. Residential and commercial projects.

Overview

Every Great Build Starts Below Grade

VP Construction runs its own excavation equipment and crew, so your project starts on a solid foundation — literally. From rough grading a new home site to digging utility trenches for a commercial build, we move dirt with purpose and precision.

What’s Included

Every angle of excavating,
covered in-house.

01

Site Preparation

Stripping topsoil, rough grading, and bringing a raw lot to construction-ready condition. We coordinate with builders and general contractors on grade specs.

02

Grading & Earthwork

Finish grading for drainage, building pads, driveways, and landscaping. Proper grading prevents water problems before they start.

03

Trenching

Utility trenches for water, sewer, electric, and gas lines. Dug to spec, bedded with stone, and backfilled properly.

04

Foundation Excavation

Excavation for basements, crawl spaces, frost footings, and slab-on-grade foundations. We dig to grade and keep the site clean.

05

Drainage Solutions

French drains, swales, catch basins, and stormwater management. We solve grading and water runoff problems that damage properties.

06

Backfill & Compaction

Clean fill, stone backfill, and compaction around foundations, retaining walls, and utility installations. Proper compaction prevents settlement.

How It Goes

From estimate
to finished job.

One crew, one phone call. Here’s exactly what to expect when you hire VP Construction.

  1. 01

    Free On-Site Estimate

We walk the site, discuss project scope, review any plans or surveys, and provide a detailed estimate. We'll flag any potential issues upfront.

  2. 02

    Utility Locates & Permits

PA One Call is contacted to mark underground utilities. We pull any required excavation or grading permits before breaking ground.

  3. 03

    Mobilization & Excavation

Equipment is brought on-site and excavation begins. Material is sorted — topsoil stockpiled for reuse, unsuitable material hauled off.

  4. 04

    Grading & Compaction

Subgrade is brought to the specified elevation and compacted. Drainage slopes are verified with a laser level.

  5. 05

    Final Inspection & Cleanup

The site is checked against grade specs, access points are restored, and excess material is removed. We leave the site ready for the next phase.

FAQ

Excavating questions,
answered straight.

Don’t see your question? Call the crew at (570) 668-3737.

Do you handle PA One Call utility locates?

Yes. We contact PA One Call (811) to mark all underground utilities before any excavation begins. It's the law and it's our standard practice on every job.

Can you work on hillside or sloped properties?

Absolutely. Much of Schuylkill County is hilly terrain and we have the equipment and experience to work on steep grades, including cut-and-fill grading and retaining wall prep.

What size equipment do you use?

We run a range of equipment from compact mini excavators for tight residential lots to full-size excavators and loaders for commercial site work. We match the equipment to the job.

Do you haul away the excavated material?

Yes. We can haul off excess material or arrange for topsoil and clean fill to be stockpiled on-site for reuse. Hauling and disposal costs are included in our estimates.

Can you work from my builder's site plan?

Yes. We regularly work from engineered site plans, grading plans, and survey drawings. If you have plans, bring them to the estimate and we'll price directly from them.
